In true British fashion, we soldiered on last week through the snow to continue with our World Book Week activities.
The main focus of the week at Babington, apart from the weather, was books. Pupils enjoyed a Creative Writing Day, they have written their entries for the creative writing competition, worked together to write a whole school collaborative story and have told tales through music.
We were very grateful to the many parents who volunteered to read to the children this week – they were our ‘Mystery Readers’. They came in as a surprise to read a story, the children did not know or expect it. The excitement about reading from a parents and the look on the child’s face whose parent had come in to read was priceless - so much more exciting than hearing a teacher read!
A highlight of the school calendar is Book Character Day when pupils and staff dress up as their favourite book character. This was embraced by all with great enthusiasm and creativity, including an all school catwalk to show off the many costumes!
It’s really wonderful that the children have been so inspired by the power of the written word.
