My name is Lauren Newton and I attended Babington House from 1990-2004, where in my last year I was Head Girl.
I graduated last summer from Warwick University and have undertaken my first job as an Events Manager at London Cancer charity; Cancerkin.
I am currently in the process of organising their Hyde Park Walk to take place on the 13th June this year. It works along the same principles as the widely recognised Race For Life- however all are welcome to this event- young children, prams, dogs, wheelchairs etc.
Cancerkin is an extremely small charity and I am looking to build up links with local schools, churches and community members, hoping to inspire them to go out of their way for a charity with a smaller, more focused and individual goal.
Currently I am compiling a Cancerkin Road Show which will go round to local schools and educate them about the work we do and muster support for the Hyde Park Event. Having started at Babington in nursery and followed through right until Year 11, I recognise first hand how established we are as a school that reaches out to help others.
I was wondering whether it would be possible to organise a day/several days in which I could come in to an assembly and give a short presentation? As this event welcomes all ages/abilities it could be a whole assembly or one which is divided up into school years (I would obviously temper the presentation I gave depending on its audience). Following this a letter could be sent out to encourage parents/friends and family to get involved.
If none of this sounds applicable I would really appreciate the chance to discuss having a dress down day/cake sale such like for the Cancerkin cause.
If you could present this idea to Miss Odysseas-Bailey and get back to me asap I would most grateful. I will be phoning the school early next week to continue this request.
