Early Years Curriculum

This is where their learning journey begins.

Our Nursery and Reception pupils become part of the Babington family from the moment they start. Set within our historic grounds, our newly renovated Nursery has been purposefully designed to inspire curiosity, imaginative play and discovery.  Children can explore cosy reading areas, imaginative play zones, creative spaces, interactive learning areas and calm zones.

Our bespoke outdoor area extends learning beyond the classroom, with a garden, creative area and obstacle course where children can develop physical, practical and communication skills through play and exploration.

Early Years Learning

Our specialist Early Years teachers provide a carefully structured day built around the EYFS, with plenty of opportunities for play, creativity, curiosity, discovery – and most importantly, fun!

Our curriculum supports children’s development across the seven areas of learning, building the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for the next stage of their journey.

There are three prime areas which are:

Personal, social and emotional development
Communication and language
Physical development

There are four specific areas which are:

Understanding the world
Literacy
Mathematics
Expressive arts and design

Phonics and Early Reading

Our carefully structured phonics programme begins in Nursery with Little Wandle and develops through Reception, supporting children as they explore sounds, develop early phonics skills and begin to read simple words.
