Mr. Tim Lello, Headmaster

Babington House School

2013- 2024

As we process the devastating news of the death of our Headmaster, we have taken the time as a school community to come together to remember and celebrate Mr. Tim Lello.

Mr. Lello was educated at St John’s College Cambridge Preparatory School, King’s School Bruton and the Universities of Newcastle, London and Jesus College, Cambridge where, alongside his academic pursuits he developed a passion for music and sport.

Before coming to Babington House School in 2013, Mr. Lello’s impressive career has seen him hold many prestigious roles including a boarding housemaster at Cranbrook School, Head of History at Aldenham School, History teacher and Housemaster at St Albans School and Senior Tutor at Queen’s College London.

Mr. Lello had many interests and enjoyed playing competitive hockey and was a singer for a professional opera company. A fact that many are unaware of is that he was also a talented flautist (he played the flute!) …. But, a well-known fact amongst all that knew him, was that Mr. Lello LOVED his golf! He was also an amazing Skier and very much enjoyed hitting the slopes with our Seniors on the School Annual Ski trip.

A strong passion of his was climbing and is indeed the reason why we have our own climbing wall and popular climbing club, sharing his passion and inspiring others.  Mr. Lello was a professional climber and climbing instructor, he and Oscar would often go on mountain climbing expeditions during the school holidays, often to remote places. His most recent was visiting Hadrian’s Wall and the National Park and mountains of Northumberland.

He was a wonderful, talented Headmaster and inspiring leader who was well respected and liked by all.  He touched our lives with his wisdom, kindness and warm smile, our school community feels blessed to have had him in our lives and will cherish and celebrate our memories of him.

He will be greatly missed by us all, Babington House will always carry the legacy of his inspiring leadership.

You will live on forever in our hearts, memories and school.
Semper Fidelis.
