Sport

As in the Senior School, we take sport seriously at Babington House Prep and compete with remarkable success at the highest levels.

We also realise that, for many pupils, sport is simply an enjoyable way to make friends and get fit. We are lucky to have some extensive playing fields on Elmstead Lane, which is a very short walk from the school, we also have a wonderful new sports hall, a climbing wall and newly constructed abseiling wall.

We have competitive squads in Netball, Football, Rugby, Athletics, Cross Country, Rounders and Swimming (at the nearby Eric Liddell pool). We also enjoy Fencing, Rock Climbing, Trampolining and Tennis.

Early Years

In our Nursery and Reception classes the emphasis in our sports based activities is to have fun and promote good health.

For the very youngest chasing butterflies and helping the teacher make daisy chains is as important as scoring goals. However, we do have a PE specialist who helps to enhance the physical development of the children safely and in the context of their age. We develop the idea of ‘taking turns’ and hand-eye coordination skills in a number of fun sporting activities, as well as putting together the two skills of throwing and running. With time and patience it is exciting to see the children begin to develop the physical skills and attention span necessary to listen to directions and grasp the rules of a sport.

As the children progress into Year 1 and above they have opportunities to play more sport. In our Preparatory and Senior School we have competitive squads in Netball, Football, Rugby, Athletics, Cross Country, Rounders and Swimming (at the nearby Eric Liddell pool). We also enjoy Rock Climbing, Horse Riding, Trampolining and Tennis.
